Hearts vs Aberdeen

Hearts fans were hugely disappointed with last season’s sixth-place finish, and they will want to put a topsy-turvy season, which included multiple managerial changes, firmly behind them. The appointment for Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes is a sensible one, and the appointment of the 54-year-old should bring the feel-good factor back to Tynecastle.

This is an excellent first fixture in front of the television cameras and there should be a terrific atmosphere in Edinburgh on Monday evening.

Hearts have looked sharp in pre-season, and they have easily swept aside several lower league sides in the League Cup. They have made some good signings and have bolstered their forward line with the additions of Elton Kabangu and Claudio Braga.

McInnes has spoken about his extensive research into this seasons opposition and as a former Aberdeen manager, he will be determined to get one over on his former employees.

Aberdeen haven’t played any cup matches and they might not be quite as fresh as the hosts. Although they were victorious in the Scottish Cup, they did end the season poorly and Jimmy Thelin will need to hit the ground running. After winning their first three away games, the Dons picked up just two more victories on their travels, including a narrow victory against relegated Ross County.

Home sides tend to triumph in this fixture with the visitors failing to record a win in the last 23 meetings. I expect that trend to continue with the players being roared on by the revitalised home faithful.
