Cardiff vs Peterborough

Back a highly watchable and high-scoring affair at the Cardiff City Stadium

Cardiff will host Peterborough in South Wales on Saturday lunchtime, with the recently relegated hosts hoping to get their season off to a positive start. The Bluebirds were relegated with a bit of a whimper last season, and they have hired the much-hyped Brian Barry-Murphy to guide them back into the Championship. The former Rochdale coach has spent the last few seasons working under Pep Guardiola and is renowned for getting his teams to play an aesthetically pleasing, possession-based style of football.
This approach will take time to yield results, and there may be a few bumps in the road along the way. Cardiff haven’t added any players to their squad over the summer, with Barry-Murphy expected to work with the current crop. Yousef Salech may depart before the end of the transfer window; however, he is a fantastic talent at this level, and if he plays, he is likely to cause issues for Peterborough’s defence. Rubin Colwill has also enjoyed a fantastic pre-season and is likely to be heavily involved this season.
Peterborough survived relegation last season, and there has been a significant turnover in their squad this summer. Darren Ferguson’s XI may need time to gel this season, and they aren’t expected to pick up any points from their opener. However, they are always dangerous going forward, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them notch at least once in this tie. They conceded 45 times on the road last season, yet they only failed to register four times away from the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
This could be an entertaining watch between two sides who enjoy playing fast-attacking football on the deck and aren’t too focused on defending.
