England Women vs Italy Women

Back plenty of goals in Stade de Geneve

A place in the final of Euro 2025 awaits one of England or Italy. The Lionesses required penalties to scrape past Sweden on Wednesday night, although 120 minutes of competitive football could prove to be a disadvantage for Sarina Wiegman’s side. There are injury doubts over Leah Williamson, Lauren James and Lucy Bronze, all of whom are hoping to shake off niggles to make the XI on Tuesday.
Nevertheless, England showed tremendous courage to fight back from 2-0 down to rescue their tournament and they can take plenty of confidence from that. Chloe Kelly’s arrival made the difference and she could be in line for a start.
The Lionesses looked suspect at the back and were tested by the Swedes. Italy have proven more than capable going forward and should be able to get themselves onto the scoresheet at the very least.
Italy are likely to be well-rested ahead of this tie having played 24 hours earlier than their opponents. Andrea Soncin has no new injury concerns ahead of this tie and they should be confident of making it through to the final at the weekend. Only Spain have beaten them at this tournament so far and they are yet to draw a blank in Switzerland.
There is plenty at stake, but I don’t expect a cagey affair. England have struggled to defend and potentially have players missing, although they still have plenty of attacking weapons in their squad.
